What is Community Engagement?
Community Engagement includes a variety of activities in which Counseling Center staff are involved in the lives of the MSU students, faculty and staff, typically outside the Counseling Center. Since the MSU community is multicultural and multiracial, Community Engagement is necessarily culturally sensitive and racially responsive. Community Engagement arises from perspectives that recognize that individuals are part of larger systems: i.e., families, communities, neighborhoods, ethnic groups, schools, churches, and the larger culture and environments. The systemic perspectives that guide Community Engagement are forged through research and practice.
